This One's For the Boys

I thought I would shift gears slightly and draw our attention to a community of bloggers who don't get talked about as much as they should (in my humble opinion) and that's male fashion bloggers. There are probably several reasons for this; a major one being that the ratio of female to males in this category is highly disproportionate and it's safe to say that the upper echelon of bloggers that come to mind are all female. However, while female fashion blogging is highly saturated and it takes a week of work to get someone to notice your shoes (slight exag. but you know what I mean), male fashion blogging is not and their market is waiting for more of them to carve out niches and develop brand relationships.

So if them being the next up and comers isn't reason enough to sit up and take notice, here are 3 more reasons to get to know your friendly neighborhood fashion guy (as well as some friendly neighborhood fashion guys I know that you should ch-ch-check out):

1. Let's break down some stereotypes about males who care about fashion. Most of us consider fashion and the documenting of it as a creative outlet, so if we view it as theirs instead of assuming it means something about their lifestyle then we could learn a thing or two from them which brings us to the next point.

2. Why can't we be friends? I hear and read a lot about the importance of community and relationship development as a key part to blogger success. Wouldn't it be interesting if your circle included a guy to bounce ideas off of? What kind of different collaborations could you think of to get going with them that would set your content apart?

3. Freshen up. Guys and girls think differently and that's the way I like it, therefore I really enjoy having their photos and posts as part of my feed because they provide a fresh perspective. They focus on different details, take shots from different angles, mix prints and colors in ways that I don't and I take inspiration from all of it (I even started a MAN board on Pinterest). As well, they provide me with feedback (often brazenly) that is different from my female circle which creates a more well rounded picture of how you could
improve content.

    1. Yes, and I totally thought of you when I wrote this because I know you have a men's segment on your blog and that's great! I think men, especially professionals need tips just as much as we do about dressing appropriately for different situations.

  4. I used to think that fashion blogging is for females only. But I've seen emerging male fashion bloggers and indeed it's refreshing seeing their own take on trends and what not. :)

    1. Oh I am so glad people are liking this article! I feel like it's so annoying when people assume we are shallow and vapid women because we like fashion, so it's wrong to assume things about men who enjoy dressing. And no worries, gotta rep the Canadian ladies on the page instead of shopping sites etc.!

  7. Wow, such a cool post! I hadn't even considered following guy's fashion on IG, thanks for the cool featured guys.. and very good point! I think bottom line, every kind of person can love fashion and it doesn't make one vain, some are- but some are just enjoying a creative outlet.
